I was curious about this snack today after seeing it in a TV commercial.
Otsuka Pharmaceutical’s SOYJOY Sweet Potato.
MSRP ¥115 (excluding tax).
The new “SOYJOY Sweet Potato” is a low-GI food product featuring a sweet potato-like flavor made with sweet potatoes, a popular healthy ingredient. By adding papaya, raisins, oranges, and other ingredients, SOYJOY Sweet Potato offers just the right amount of texture and tartness, while providing a delicious way to consume protein, dietary fiber, and other nutrients that are often lacking in soybeans.
As health consciousness rises due to the increase in snacking opportunities and lack of exercise associated with lifestyle changes, SOYJOY supports healthy snacking habits with the addition of new items that further enhance the enjoyment of choice.
Otsuka Pharmaceutical will continue to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of people’s health under the corporate philosophy of “Otsuka-people creating new products for better health worldwide.
- What are low GI foods?
GI stands for Glycemic Index. Foods with a GI value of 55 or less are called “low GI foods,” and all SOYJOY items have been confirmed to be “low GI foods.
(Quoted from Otsuka Pharmaceutical website)
The SOYJOY series has been on the market since 2006, but I had never had it before!
The best part is that it is gluten-free, with no wheat used.
The dough is so moist that it is hard to believe it is made from soybeans. It is like a sweet potato. Or a high quality baked sweet potato.
The texture and tartness of papaya, raisins, and oranges accentuate the taste of this Western confection.
Although it is filling, it is low in calories at only 135 kcal per serving.
I can’t believe I lived for 16 years without knowing about this wonderful treat….
There were many other varieties of SOYJOY on the shelves, so I’ll have it again!
Thank you for the food… ♪
