I, Chigasaki, have found another great restaurant!
Kumaya Bekkan Yaei is located about a 2-minute walk from the North Exit of JR Chigasaki Station.
We visited at lunch time.
Cute bear sign!
This was my first visit,
Originally, there were three stores of the “Kumaya” group in Chigasaki.
Unfortunately, the main store and one other store are closed and only this annex is currently open.
It is a curious structure with two entrances and exits.
Entering from here…
There is a counter and two tables for two.
Turn the corner of the building and enter through this entrance…
A staircase leads to the second floor.
Take off your shoes and go up.
It is a tatami room.
There was also table seating further back.
There are so many items on the menu, it’s hard to decide!
I was torn between this set meal of sauteed bonito with charred butter and soy sauce and this set meal,
I decided to order two “special set menus” for ¥2500 (tax included)!
It comes with 5 pieces of sashimi, a dish of your choice, a small bowl of cooked food, soup, pickles, rice, dessert, and a drink.
A la carte dishes to choose from, one is “Chicken and vegetables with grated ponzu sauce”.
The crispy fried chicken and vegetables soak up the sweet oroshi ponzu (grated ponzu citrus juice), making the rice go down a treat!
The sashimi is thick and all fresh!
The kanpachi was plump and the horse mackerel was so fatty that I thought it was a medium fatty tuna.
Too delicious!
And the volume is amazing!
Another of the special set menus is the “Tempura assorted prawns and vegetables” as the a la carte dish of choice.
Freshly fried, hot and crispy, the prawns are large and plump!
Kumaya, I thought the vegetables were delicious as well, and so it should be!
They are a group of Okuma Grocery Store, a long-established grocery store in Chigasaki!
I’m hungry, but dessert and a drink are included after the meal.
There are four desserts to choose from: “pudding” and the dessert of the day, “apricot pudding”.
The pudding was excellent and surprisingly delicious!
Hard, rich, thick pudding. Quite authentic.
This pudding alone is enough to open a restaurant!
I looked around and saw that most of the customers in the store had chosen pudding.
I became convinced that this pudding is a specialty of Kumaya!
I think there are two main types of apricot jelly (jelly type with a hard, agar-like texture or creamy, thick pudding type).
This was a hard type.
The apricot pudding was delicious, but once I got to know this pudding, I would definitely choose the pudding.
I left the restaurant with a full stomach and a very satisfied stomach~.
Thank you for the food… ♪
