Today’s pudding.
Awaji Island Milk “Awaji Island Algal Salt Pudding”.
Familiar package…
This is…
Awajishima baked pudding” was discovered at a supermarket near my parents’ house when I went back to Osaka at the end of last year.
It was delicious!
Awaji Island Pudding” is not easily found in the Kanto region.
In Tokyo and Kanagawa, I heard that the supermarkets “Okay” and “SANWA” carry them, but they are not available in my area…
You can buy them online, but I prefer to buy them in-store in person as much as possible, so if I come across them again sometime, I’ll eat them! I was thinking that I would like to try it again.
Then, you know!
Oh my! Last week!
I happened to pass by the “Awaji Island Marche” at the central north ticket gate of JR Yokohama Station…
!!!!!
There it is! Awaji Island pudding!
I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Hyah~! I shouted out.
It was such a moving reunion that I can only assume that my feelings for Awaji Island pudding were understood.
(*By the way, this Awaji Island Marche ends on January 15, 2023.)
There are three kinds of pudding available: baked pudding, salt pudding, and coffee pudding.
Today we will have “algal salt pudding”.
Awaji Island’s unique new sensory pudding!
It is made with plenty of fresh Awaji Island milk and Awaji Island seaweed salt, which is made by cooking seawater from the Naruto Straits with seaweed such as Hondawara seaweed harvested on Awaji Island.
The mouthwatering, mildly salty taste of seaweed with its umami flavor enhances the sweetness.
It is also a new type of baked pudding unique to Awaji Island, made with a low-calorie syrup containing rare sugar and carefully and slowly baked with domestic eggs.
(quoted from Awaji Island Milk HP)”.
I wonder what “algae salt” is like? I am excited to try salt-flavored pudding for the first time.
The only ingredients are “milk, eggs, sugar, syrup containing rare sugar, and salt”. Excellent!
The pudding is smooth, pliable, and fresh with a high water content.
The texture is light and smooth. You can taste the egg flavor.
I think it is the “rare sugar” that gives it a unique sweetness.
And the “algae salt” is very effective!
Is it because it’s not just salt, but “algae salt”? Because it has more water?
I feel the “sea”! It feels like ‘summer pudding’!
The taste of this “Sea Salt Pudding” is quite different from the “Yaki Pudding” we had last time, and this “Sea Salt Pudding” is lighter.
I wonder if the texture and sweetness were chosen to complement the “algae salt”.
There is no caramel sauce in it, but it would go well with the bittersweet, dark caramel sauce!
I thought I remembered something about this texture…
It looked like the chawanmushi I made for dinner the other night.
